Unemployment Compensation

There are many common misconceptions about unemployment compensation. One such misconception is that benefits are not available if you are receiving workers' compensation. In truth, most workers can apply for unemployment benefits even if you are receiving workers' compensation benefits.

The Family Medical Leave Act

The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a federal law that allows employees to take up to 12 weeks of work leave. To be eligible, an employee must work for an employer of suitable size and the employee must have been employed for a suitable period of time.

Leave under the FMLA is unpaid. The benefit, however, is that an employee may take an extended leave from work without the fear of being terminated. However, an employee seeking FMLA leave must give proper notice and apply for FMLA leave in accordance with federal law.
